Please join us at the annual CAARPR Human Rights Awards Dinner to celebrate the work of outstanding local activists and support the CAARPR!

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Gerald Horne, Chair of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. Among his many books are the recent Paul Robeson, the Artist as Revolutionary and The Counter-Revolution of 1776: Slave Resistance and the Origins of the United States of America. His research has addressed issues of racism in a variety of relations involving labor, politics, civil rights, international relations and war.

This year’s Human Rights Awards honorees are Reverend (Queen Mother) Helen Sinclair and Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa.

Rev. Helen Sinclair, 96, has spent her life ministering to the incarcerated in Cook County and Illinois and fighting for their rights and needs. Her son-in-law Johnnie Veal was framed for the murder of two police officers in the Cabrini-Green Homes and is still in prison after 47 years.

Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa is Chicago’s youngest alderman. He has introduced CPAC legislation in the Chicago City Council. He organizes to prevent deportations and is a strong, progressive advocate for community decision making that involves all residents, regardless of citizenship status.

We will also be celebrating the 75th birthdays of Frank Chapman and Ted Pearson, steadfast and longtime leaders of the NAARPR/CAARPR.
