Fightback News Chicago Protest Demands Community Control of Police
On May 13, 2016 Mayor Emanuel, after announcing his intentions to abolish IPRA, made the following statement to the press: “Today I can announce that in the coming weeks, we will have the final details worked out on a comprehensive plan to fundamentally reshape our system of police accountability and it will be introduced at the following meeting of the full City Council on June 22, 2016”.
This announcement by Mayor Rahm Emanuel is intended to drown out the call for his resignation in the wake of the 16 shots and a cover up in the Laquan McDonald case, it is intended to quell the mass protests of thousands of people in the streets demanding community control of the police #CPACNOW. It mocks the demands for justice for Rekia Boyd, Laquan McDonald, Flint Farmer, Darius Pinex, Ronald Johnson, Quintonio LeGrier, Bettie Jones, Pedro Rios Jr, Roshad McIntosh, Desean Pittman, Angelique Styles…ALL those by murdered by Chicago police. It is intended to ignore the cry for justice of hundreds of survivors of police crimes and torture. In brief the Mayor’s proposals’ to “reshape” the system adds insult to injury
WE ARE ASKING EVERYONE, FROM THE NEIGHBORHOODS, CHURCHES, THE YOUTH LED MOVEMENTS, LABOR AND EVERY MOVEMENT AGAINST RACISM AND FOR JUSTICE TO JOIN US JUNE 22, 2016 8:30AM AT CITY HALL TO SAY IN ONE UNIFIED VOICE WE WANT, WE DEMAND AN ALL ELECTED CIVILIAN POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY COUNCIL #CPACNOW.
