DEFEND VOTING RIGHTS! STOP POLICE CRIMES!

On December 4, 2026, NAARPR will be convening at the historic Howard University for our first ever Eastern Regional Organizing Conference!

Marking our 53rd year of resistance against racist and political repression, this conference comes at a crucial time. Across the country, people are fighting back against the racist and reactionary Trump agenda, from the dramatic uprising in Los Angeles, to the forced removal of ICE from Minneapolis by a hundred thousand people in the streets. Chicago achieved the strongest anti-ICE legislation in the country with Mayor Brandon Johnson’s ICE On Notice Executive Order. Our chapters and affiliates played leading roles in these struggles, guided by the task we all committed to during our 2025 National Conference: Build the United Front Against the Racist and Reactionary Trump Agenda.

We also experienced setbacks, especially with the gutting of Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Our National Executive Director, Frank Chapman, described the Louisiana v. Callais decision as “a full-frontal attack on the Black Liberation Movement.” Numerous states are redistricting Black people off the congressional map ahead of Primary Elections. On the East Coast Black voters are under attack in Florida and the Carolinas, and in Washington DC, Trump has threatened to directly intervene in the midterms to stop the historic victory of progressive candidate Janeese Lewis George.

Frank again:

“Their goal with Black people is always disenfranchisement. Jim Crow and the entire racist police state in the South were instituted on the premise of keeping Black people from being able to vote.”

Our right to vote is the building block upon which we build all our democratic rights rest. NAARPR and our ancestral organizations like the Civil Rights Congress have fought to defend and expand voting rights for almost a hundred years, and we will deepen that tradition through our Eastern Regional Organizing Conference where we will do our part to stop the Trump train in its tracks.
