The labor movement has long engaged in the fight to improve the conditions its members as well as on broader social issues: the fight for civil rights, health and safety laws, minimum wage laws and so on. While unions fight for health and safety of their members on the job, should this include worker safety in their neighborhoods? What role should labor play in the fight for greater accountability of the police forces? Please join us for presentations and discussions of this important topic.

Panel:
Carl Rosen: Western Region President of the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), the Union has recently adopted resolutions against police crimes.

Tammy Vinson: Rank and file Teacher, member of Chicago Teachers Union and member of the American Federation of Teachers Black Caucus.

The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression calls on all our supporters & allies to stand with Rasmea Odeh RasmeaOct_14

All out for Cincinnati to support Rasmea at her appeal Wednesday, October 14, 2015!
Stand with Rasmea and fill the appeals courthouse in Cincinnati!

WHEN:
Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 8 AM EST (oral argument for the appeal starts at 9 AM EST)
WHERE:
U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit
540 Potter Stewart U.S. Courthouse
100 E. 5th Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202

The Rasmea Defense Committee contends that Judge Gershwin Drain did not allow for a full and fair trial, and believes that is why Rasmea was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison and deportation. We are confident that she has solid arguments on appeal, and wrote in late July that the “defense argues conclusively that the government ‘never really addresses the basic constitutional deprivations asserted in Ms. Odeh’s opening appellate brief,’ and that Rasmea is ‘entitled to present her complete defense to the jury,’ which can only happen in a new trial.” …read more and sign up to Stand with Rasmea and fill the appeals courthouse in Cincinnati!
